Skånemejerier slashes emissions

Skånemejerier reduces climate footprint and advances sustainability goal

Skånemejerier’s 2024 sustainability report highlights a 7% reduction in its total climate footprint compared to 2023, and a 4% decrease since 2020. The biggest source of emissions—milk raw material—accounts for around 70% of the footprint but continues to decline, now averaging 0.95 kg CO₂e per kg energy-corrected milk from 280 dairy farms. Emissions from Skånemejerier’s own operations (Scope 1 and 2) have dropped 29% in a year and 52% since 2020.

The company achieved 99% fossil-free energy use across its four production sites and reached 96% fossil-free domestic transport. Steps included fuel switching, logistics optimization, and the introduction of electric trucks. Skånemejerier also met its 2025 targets for waste reduction and water treatment a year early, thanks to investments like the Malmö plant upgrade.

Parent group Lactalis had its climate targets validated by the Science Based Targets initiative, aligning with the 1.5°C goal of the Paris Agreement and aiming for net zero by 2050. Skånemejerier will contribute through continuous improvements across its value chain.

We are proud of our progress and committed to driving further sustainable growth, says CEO Cecilia von Perglas.
