Swedish exports of agricultural products and food increased by nearly SEK 2 billion in 2024. At the same time, imports rose by almost SEK 5 billion.
The annual summary of Sweden’s trade in agricultural products and food shows that exports reached SEK 83 billion in 2024—an increase of nearly SEK 2 billion, or just over 2 percent. The main contributors to this growth were exports of various food items (e.g., soups, cooking fats, ready meals, and semi-processed products), coffee, tobacco and tobacco products, oils and fats, and sugar.
Imports amounted to SEK 163 billion, marking an increase of nearly SEK 5 billion, or just under 3 percent, compared to 2023. The main increases were seen in imports of coffee, fruits and vegetables, beverages, animal feed, milk and dairy products, and cereals.
The trade deficit for agricultural products and food reached SEK 80 billion in 2024—an increase of nearly SEK 3 billion, or just over 3 percent compared to 2023.
The most important export markets in 2024 were Norway, Denmark, and Finland, which together accounted for 46 percent of the total value of Swedish exports.
Exports to Norway increased only marginally—by just over SEK 50 million or 0.3 percent. Exports to Denmark decreased by SEK 330 million, or nearly 3 percent, while exports to Finland rose by just over SEK 275 million, or 3 percent.
