Skånemejerier reclaims Proviva in new acquisition deal

Lactalis, the French dairy group that owns Skånemejerier, has signed an agreement to acquire the Proviva brand from Danone and minority shareholder Skånemejerier Economic Association.

The deal also includes the Lunnarp-based production facility Österlenmejeriet, bringing Proviva back into the Skånemejerier family after more than a decade.

  • The acquisition of the Proviva brand and Österlenmejeriet is strategic for our Swedish business. This strong brand will complement our product portfolio and enhance our presence in Sweden. I’m pleased to welcome more than 80 employees to our Swedish workforce of 800, said Skånemejerier CEO Cecilia von Perglas in a press release.

Skånemejerier, which has been part of Lactalis since 2012, already owns several well-known Swedish brands, including Bravo, Allerum, Hjordnära, Åsens Lantmjölk and Lindahls. The addition of Proviva is expected to further strengthen the company’s position in the Swedish dairy and functional beverage market. Proviva was originally owned by Skånemejerier before Danone purchased a majority stake in 2010 with ambitions for global expansion.

Proviva, launched in the mid-1990s, became a major success thanks to its probiotic, stomach-friendly profile.

Ignasi Argente, general manager for Danone Nordics and Baltics, expressed confidence in the transfer, calling Skånemejerier “a reliable buyer who is knowledgeable in the industry and has roots in Skåne.”

Anders Rolfsson, chairman of the Skånemejerier Economic Association, added that the agreement concludes “15 successful years of joint venture with Danone” and is expected to deliver solid returns to the cooperative’s roughly 300 dairy farmers.

The financial details of the deal have not been disclosed. Completion is expected during the first half of 2026, pending approval from the Swedish Competition Authority.
