Axfood puts dyslexia support on milk cartons

The Dyslexia Association and Axfood partner to highlight reading and writing challenges on Garant dairy packaging

Over 500,000 Swedes live with dyslexia. In every school class, one to two children have dyslexia—and even more struggle with reading. Now, the Dyslexia Association and Axfood are teaming up to shine a light on the daily challenges faced by many. For several months, Garant dairy packaging will feature information about reading and writing difficulties, along with exercises and helpful tips on how to learn, support others, and get the right help—reaching millions of Swedes right at the breakfast table.

  • We work hard to raise awareness about reading, writing, and math difficulties in society. It’s important that as many people as possible understand how tough these challenges can be, says Inger Rålenius, Acting Chair of the Dyslexia Association adding: – But there are tools, adjustments, and resources that make everyday life easier. Being able to partner with Axfood and Garant to reach into people’s homes and conversations around the dinner table is a powerful way to spread knowledge.
  • Reading and writing difficulties are very common, and we’re also seeing a decline in reading habits among children and teens, says Emma Töpel Hanson, Head of Private Label Marketing Communication at Dagab/Axfood. – Through our dairy packaging, we reach millions of Swedes. That’s why we feel it’s important to highlight the challenges around reading, while also offering tips, exercises, and guidance on how to get help.

Axfood’s family of companies includes the grocery chains Willys, Hemköp, and City Gross, as well as Tempo, Handlar’n, and Matöppet.
