Plans for new milk powder factory in Falköping

Falköpings Mejeri, Skånemejerier Ekonomisk Förening, and Gäsene Mejeri are planning to build a new milk powder factory in Falköping at an estimated cost of up to SEK 400 million.

The new facility is expected to produce 15,000 tons of milk powder annually, using approximately 150 million kilos of milk.  Accordig to plans it can be completed as early as 2027

The factory will be built next to the existing milk powder facility in Falköping, which was constructed in 1985 and has an annual production capacity of 5,000 tons.

– Most of the powder we produce today is already exported. We feel that we are outgrowing the current facility, says Falköpings Mejeri CEO Anders Segerström to Atl.

To fund the project, Falköpings Mejeri will sell 49% of the shares in its subsidiary, Västgöta Mjölkförädling, which operates the factory. The shares will be sold to Skånemejerier Ekonomisk Förening and Gäsene Mejeri. The three organizations will then make joint decisions about the factory’s development.

The purpose of the investment is to secure a market for milk produced by the cooperatives’ members, particularly as domestic sales of fresh dairy products in Sweden continue to decline.
