On Saturday, May 4th, it’s time for this year’s first Kalvinknat, Sweden’s largest children’s race initiated by Skånemejerier. The goal is to promote health and movement among children and youth.
The very first Kalvinknat was organized back in 2002, when about 6,000 children participated at twelve different locations in Skåne. Since then, the race has grown into an annual celebration and engaged almost 380,000 children in Skåne, Småland, and Halland. This year, the race runs from May 4th to June 16th, and all children born between 2013 and 2021 are welcome to participate to the best of their ability. This year, over 30,000 children are expected to participate in the race.
– At Skånemejerier, we want to promote a healthy lifestyle from the start. It’s especially important for children to be active as their bodies grow and need to become strong, but also because we know that the habits we develop as young children influence the habits we have as adults. Kalvinknat is a family celebration where all children go home as winners, and where our future generation at a young age creates a positive connection to physical activity, says Anette Gregow, Communication and Sustainability Director at Skånemejerier.
Kalvinknaten is a collaboration between Skånemejerier, MAI, and other local sports clubs. The surplus from the race goes directly to the clubs, which can reinvest the money in their activities to get more children moving. Read the full press release HERE
