Swedish dairies are making an active effort to assist people in poverty. By donating tons of products every month, they also reduce food waste from the dairies.
The agricultural newspaper ATL has asked Swedish dairies about their social initiatives towards people affected by poverty in Sweden. The responses indicate significant activity, also aimed at preventing food waste in the dairies.
Skånemejerier donated 60 tons of food for social purposes last year. Skånemejerier is the main partner in the association Skåne Stadsmission, providing financial support to their operations. Since 2021, Skånemejerier has also been donating food to the City Missions in Stockholm and Gothenburg.
Arla donates products to the social grocery store Matmissionen from its dairy in Kallhäll near Stockholm. Since November, they initiated a similar collaboration with the Rescue Mission in Gothenburg donating products from the dairy in Jönköping.
Norrmejerier collaborates with Umeå Stadsmission and the social store Hela Människan in Luleå, giving away products that have a short shelf life.
