Oatly invests $16 million in Landskrona

The oat drink company Oatly has announced a multi-year investment in its production facility in Landskrona, Sweden, to meet accelerating global demand for its plant-based drinks.

Operating since 2006, the Landskrona plant currently employs more than 300 people. Following the refurbishment, the facility will increase its production capacity from 150 to 200 million litres per year, all within the same physical footprint. Thanks to existing energy procurement — the Landskrona factory sources 100 per cent renewable energy — alongside efficiencies in ingredient sourcing and the distribution network, the project is expected to reduce the company’s overall corporate climate impact in 2026 and 2027.

Simon Broadbent, SVP Sustainable Operations at Oatly, said in a press release:

  • We’re seeing growing demand for our products, so the time is right to upgrade our Landskrona site, which has performed exceptionally well in recent years, both in terms of production stability and outstanding cost management. The Landskrona factory is a key site for us, not only because of our roots in Sweden, but also because it is a fully owned, end-to-end production hub and home to many of our core functions. You could think of it as one large oat campus.

Increased production at the Landskrona facility will also lead the company to source more oats from Swedish farmers. The expanded plant is expected to be completed by March 2027.

Headquartered in Malmö, Sweden, the Oatly brand is available in more than 60 countries globally.
