Skånemejerier has joined an industry-wide collaboration committed to reducing sugar in flavoured milk products.
To strengthen efforts to promote healthier eating habits, Skånemejerier, together with the industry organisation Livsmedelsföretagen, Arla, Norrmejerier and others, has developed and signed a new industry agreement aimed at reducing the amount of free sugar in sweetened flavoured milk products. The commitment forms part of a long-term initiative to encourage healthier dietary habits and contribute to improved public health.
- As one of Sweden’s largest dairy companies, we have a significant responsibility to make it easier for consumers to make healthy choices. We have long been working to reduce the sugar content in our products, and this agreement provides both the industry and consumers with a clear, shared direction for the future, says Anna Oliw, Head of Research and Development at Skånemejerier in a press release.
Skånemejerier participated in the Livsmedelsföretagen working group that developed the agreement and its shared targets. Under the agreement, by 2030 at least 90 per cent of the company’s sales must contain no more than 6.0 g of free sugar per 100 g. Already today, just over 80 per cent of Skånemejerier’s flavoured milk sales — across its three dairy brands Lindahls, Skånemejerier and Salakis — meet the maximum level set out in the agreement.
- We want to take an active leadership role in this development. As a major dairy company, we have both the opportunity and the responsibility to drive change towards healthier products. The fact that we are already close to the target level demonstrates that our work is delivering results and that it is entirely possible to combine great taste with less sugar, says Anna Oliw, adding that Skånemejerier is intensifying its innovation efforts to achieve and exceed the 2030 target.
