Strong public confidence in Swedish milk and dairy farmers

Swedish milk and the country’s dairy farmers continue to enjoy strong public confidence. A new survey from LRF shows that almost nine in ten Swedes have a high level of trust in Swedish dairy farmers.

According to the survey, 88 per cent of respondents say they have great confidence in Swedish dairy farmers, while 84 per cent believe it is important that milk is produced in Sweden. Among young adults, that figure rises to as much as 90 per cent.

  • Even though we already know that we enjoy strong trust among consumers, this survey is yet another confirmation, sys Inger-Lise Sjöström, chair of the Swedish Farmers’ Union (LRF) Dairy Delegation, in a press statement.
  • It always warms my heart when this is presented so clearly. When so many people appreciate Swedish dairy products and have great trust in us dairy farmers, it underlines the vital role Swedish dairy farms play in helping people feel secure about having food on the table, she adds.

The survey also reveals that milk consumption is rising. Seven in ten Swedes now drink milk every week, a significant increase compared with five years ago, when only six in ten did so. Attitudes towards dairy remain largely positive: 76 per cent have a positive view of milk, and 84 per cent of milk products in general.

Swedish-produced dairy is particularly highly valued. In addition to the 84 per cent who say it is important that milk is produced in Sweden, 81 per cent believe that farms with dairy cows are crucial for ensuring the country can produce as much food as possible domestically.

  • It is encouraging to see the younger generation really embracing milk. When nine in ten young people consume milk and just as many think it is important that it is Swedish, it gives hope for both healthy eating habits and the future of Swedish milk production, says Peter Kofoed, head of LRF Milk
