Reduced climate impact from Skånemejerier’s milk suppliers

Skånemejerier reports a significant reduction in the climate footprint of the milk supplied by its dairy farmers in 2024 compared to the previous year.

Skånemejerier long-term commitment to cutting emissions across the entire value chain is showing tangible results. New data reveal that greenhouse gas emissions per kilo of energy-corrected milk fell from 0.95 to 0.86 kilos of CO₂ equivalents — an almost 10% improvement in just one year.

  • We are proud to see our climate impact decreasing. This positive trend reflects the strong collaboration with our suppliers and shows that we are on the right track, says Anna Ekman-Nilsson, Farm Quality and Sustainability Manager at Skånemejerier.

Several factors contributed to this progress. A higher milk price in 2024 encouraged increased production and improved resource efficiency on farms. Favorable weather conditions also led to better feed harvests compared to 2023. Moreover, 2024 marked the first full year that farmers received Skånemejerier’s sustainability bonus, rewarding efforts in climate action, animal welfare, and biodiversity.

Through its Hållbar Mjölkgård (Sustainable Dairy Farm) program, Skånemejerier continues to work with farmers on concrete measures such as more efficient feed use, improved manure management, and energy optimization — all aimed at further reducing emissions.

Climate impact is calculated using Klimatkollen, a tool developed within the Greppa Näringen initiative. In spring 2025, 99% of Skånemejerier’s milk-producing farms completed climate assessments, ensuring robust data for ongoing improvement.
