Dairy Farms contribute over 18.8 billion SEK, accounting for a quarter of Sweden’s agricultural production value in 2023, writes the Agricultural Agency (Jordbruksverket) in a press release.
A quarter of the agricultural production value from farm products was generated by dairy farms. Just under a quarter of this value was created in Skåne, and around 90 percent of the total production value came from full-time farms. In total, agricultural products worth approximately 71.9 billion SEK were produced in Sweden in 2023.
Dairy farms, specializing in milk production, accounted for over a quarter of this, or 18.8 billion SEK. Of this amount, 12.9 billion came from milk, 2.2 billion from meat, and 2.8 billion from roughage.
Farms specializing in crop production generated 12.6 billion SEK, or just under 18 percent of the total agricultural production value.
Full-time farms, meaning the 13,400 agricultural enterprises where the standard working time is 1,600 hours or more, make up a quarter of all farms in Sweden. In 2023, full-time farms accounted for about 90 percent of the total agricultural production value.
Skåne accounts for a quarter of the production value Just under a quarter of Sweden’s agricultural production value was generated in Skåne County, followed by Västra Götaland County, which accounted for over 17 percent. Crop production dominates the value of agricultural products in Stockholm, Skåne, and Uppsala counties, while livestock production is dominant in Kalmar and Jönköping counties.
