Emå Dairy lays off all employees

Emå Dairy, declared bankrupt in March and subsequently taken over by Småland Dairy, has now paused its operations and laid off all staff.

When Småland Dairy took over Emå Dairy in March, it was with great confidence in the future. However, the transition has not gone as planned. As a result, operations are being paused, and all employees—totalling seven people—are being laid off. The last delivery day before the shutdown is scheduled for September 11, as reported by SVT with reference to Dagens Vimmerby.

Stefan Malm, the acting CEO, explained to Dagens Vimmerby that challenges arising from the pandemic and increased competition in the dairy market are behind the decision.

Despite the current situation, the company’s management is hopeful that Emå Dairy can be revived in the future.

– We – at Småland Dairy – will use this pause to regroup, review our product range, and continue upgrading the facility. Our ambition is to return soon, the management wrote in a letter to suppliers and customers.

Emå Dairy, established in 2007 and based in Hultsfred, Småland, produces a core range of conventional and organic dairy products, cheese, and various specialty products. The dairy operates under four brands: Emå Dairy, Östgöta Milk (Photo), Blåklint Products, and Småland Food.
