The new electric truck is one out of two that will be tested in a pilot study. The aim is to evaluate the technology and opportunities that electric trucks create, with the intention of investing more heavily in the future.
– We are actively working to reduce our climate impact, and we are proud that 97% of our domestic transports are currently fossil-free. Our work to reach the goal of 100% continues, and to succeed, efficiency, optimization, and fuel switching are important, says Peter Liljedahl, Transport Manager at Skånemejerier.
Skånemejerier’s pilot study will not only benefit the company locally but is also being closely watched by Skånemejerier’s owner, the world’s largest dairy group, Lactalis. ”
– We are a local company with a global owner, which allows us to drive change both in the region and towards a more sustainable dairy industry at large. This is both inspiring and motivating, says Peter Liljedahl.
The first electric truck is a Volvo FM 490 KW 42 Tractor with a range of 250 km, delivering Skånemejerier products throughout Skåne, in both cities and rural areas. It began operation in May 2024 and is charged at Malmö Dairy with green electricity.
