Both lactose-free and gluten-free products have risen sharply in retail over the past 12 months, figures from NielsenIQ show.
Anna Ekström sales director Nordics, at NielsenIQ states to food-supply.se:
– The tendence are similar in both volume and value, which means that it can’t be explained by increased promotions or increased prices. We simply buy more of these products.
Having said that, the increase is not quite as sharp as the year before. For example, has lactose-free products increased by 4.4 percent in volume over the past 12 months, while the increase was 16.7 percent a year earlier.
The sales director adds that it is natural that products after a very sharp increase lose momentum over time.
She also comments that though the pandemic gave a general boost to the grocery trade the numbers indicate that we have a continued strong trend for lactose- and gluten-free products.
