Wiseguyreports: Global Dairy Processing Equipment Market is expected to grow

Global Dairy Processing Equipment Market is expected to grow at a CAGR 5.2% during the forecasted period from 2016-2021. Global Dairy Processing Equipment Market is growing at a modest rate due to huge consumption of processed milk, cream, cheese, buttermilk, yogurt, milk powder and protein concentrates across the globe.

Global rise in adoption of dairy processing equipments such as pasteurizers, homogenizers, separators, evaporators & dryers, churning machines, crystallizers and so on are driving the market.

Processed milk has considerable market share in the dairy processing equipment market and milk powder and protein concentrates are among the fastest-growing segment due to wide adoption across the globe. Rising demand of milk powder in daily consumption and as an ingredient in sports nutrition and baby feed is creating scope for the market.

COPAN Diagnostics Launching First Fully Automated Instrument for Preparing Pour Plate Total Viable Counts

MilkyWay”MilkyWay,” from COPAN Diagnostics, Inc. is the first fully automated instrument for preparing pour plate total viable bacterial counts on liquid samples.

The new instrument fully automates the pour plate method for performing total viable bacterial counts on liquid samples. The Copan ”MilkyWay” on display at the International Association for Food Protection Annual Conference (IAFP) is specifically adapted for processing dairy samples. The application on display at IAFP mixes molten agar with the sample. After it cools down, the mixture is set and then overlaid with another layer of agar.

New Tetra Pak High Shear Mixer

Tetra Pak® High Shear Mixer R370-1000VFeaturing a radical new design that produces finer, more consistent and more stable emulsions, the new R370-1000D reduces the need for downstream homogenisation, delivers a better quality end product and cuts energy bills.

The new mixer can also handle ingredients with up to 65% dry matter, the highest concentration for infant formula production. This cuts down the need for evaporation, another expensive step in food processing, slashing costs by up to 90%.

The mixing machine produces at a capacity of up to 30,000 litres per hour and can be applied in the production of liquid dairy and beverages, ice cream and prepared food, as well as for most pre-mixing needs in food manufacturing.

OECD and FAO see slower growth in demand keeping world food prices low

Global food commodity prices are projected to remain low over the next decade compared to previous peaks, as demand growth in a number of emerging economies is expected to slow down and biofuel policies have a diminished impact on markets, according to the latest 10-year agricultural outlook published today by the OECD and FAO.

The OECD-FAO Agricultural Outlook 2017-2026 says that the completed replenishment of cereal stocks by 230 million metric tonnes over the past decade, combined with abundant stocks of most other commodities, should also help limit growth in world prices, which are now almost back to their levels before the 2007-08 food price crisis.

The report foresees per capita demand for food staples remaining flat, except in least developed countries. Additional calories and protein consumption over the outlook period are expected to come mainly from vegetable oil, sugar and dairy products. Growth in demand for meat is projected to slow, with no new sources of demand projected to maintain the momentum previously generated by China.

Growth in meat and dairy production, by contrast, is expected to come from both larger herds and higher output per-animal. Milk production growth will accelerate when compared to the previous decade, most notably in India and Pakistan. It is foreseen that aquaculture would dominate growth in the fish sector and farmed fish production will be the fastest-growing protein source among all commodities analysed in the Outlook.

Definition Agreed on Prebiotic

In December 2016, a panel of experts in microbiology, nutrition and clinical research was convened by the International Scientific Association for Probiotics and Prebiotics to review the definition and scope of prebiotics. Consistent with the original embodiment of prebiotics, but aware of the latest scientific and clinical developments, the panel updated the definition of a prebiotic: a substrate that is selectively utilized by host microorganisms conferring a health benefit.

This definition expands the concept of prebiotics to possibly include non-carbohydrate substances, applications to body sites other than the gastrointestinal tract, and diverse categories other than food. The requirement for selective microbiota-mediated mechanisms was retained.

Beneficial health effects must be documented for a substance to be considered a prebiotic. The consensus definition applies also to prebiotics for use by animals, in which microbiota-focused strategies to maintain health and prevent disease is as relevant as for humans.

Ultimately, the goal of this Consensus Statement is to engender appropriate use of the term ‘prebiotic’ by relevant stakeholders so that consistency and clarity can be achieved in research reports, product marketing and regulatory oversight of the category. To this end, we have reviewed several aspects of prebiotic science including its development, health benefits and legislation.
