Fjällkon är en hotad lantras. Trots att dess mjölk lämpar sig väl för ostproduktion minskar antalet mjölkande besättningar.

Fjällkon mjölkar mindre än en vanlig mjölkko och det har bidragit till att antalet besättningar med fjällkor har halverats de senaste tio åren.

Arlas innovationscenter invigt

Arla_InnovationscenterArla invigde den 16 maj ett toppmodernt globalt innovationscenter i Århus, Danmark, där trender, tekniker och produkter kommer att skapas tillsammans med kockar, forskare, konsumenter och kunder.

Fakta om Arlas innovationscenter:

  • Funktioner i byggnaden: Byggnaden består av ett litet och kompakt pilotmejeri, en mängd olika laboratorier, Consumer House, Customer Collaboration Lab och moderna kontor som är utformade för att främja kreativitet och tvärfunktionella projekt.
  • Hållbarhet: Arla Innovation Center är designat som en koldioxidneutral byggnad, förutom bearbetningsområdena. Byggnaden uppfyller även kraven för lågenergibyggnad i klass 2020 i den danska bygglagstiftningen. Dessutom har vattenbesparande utrustning installerats överallt, och byggnaden har totalt 525 m2 solceller på taket för produktion av förnybar energi.
  • Agro Food Park: Agro Food Park, i Skejbydistriktet utanför Århus, Danmark, är ett snabbväxande innovationsekosystem för den internationella lantbruks- och livsmedelsindustrin. För närvarande finns där 75 företag och institutioner, till exempel Food Universe, Food Observatory, Business Incubator, Foodture lab (gastronomiskt labb) och Institut for Fødevarer vid Aarhus Universitet, som totalt sysselsätter mer än 900 anställda. Agro Food Park erbjuder en unik möjlighet för samarbete och samverkan mellan företag, entreprenörer, institutioner och investerare – perfekta förhållanden för tillväxt.

Open Letter Call for EU-wide nutrient profiles for nutrition and health claims

The letter is signed by The European Consumer Organization (BEUC), Danone, European Heart Network (EHN), European Public Health Alliance (EPHA), Nestlé, PepsiCo, The Coca-Cola Company and Unilever.

“The undersigned civil society and private sector organisations want to express their support for the urgent adoption of EU-wide nutrient profiles for nutrition and health claims. In the fight against obesity, the EU needs to take action where it has the competences”, the letter says.

Study: Yogurt Bolsters Bone Health in Irish Adults

A new study out of Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland has found positive correlation between yogurt consumption and bone health.

Considered the largest observational study of dairy intake and bone and health to date. The study focused on older adults in Ireland. The researchers found that higher hip bone density and a significantly reduced risk of osteoporosis in older populations was associated with an increased yogurt consumption after taking into account traditional risk factors.

New Condition Monitoring Service from Tetra Pak

Tetra Pak has launched a new Condition Monitoring service to help food and beverage manufacturers predict machine failures before they occur. This cuts machine downtime and costs related to maintenance or unexpected failures.

A true game changer based on Microsoft Azure Cloud, Tetra Pak’s Condition Monitoring service provides real-time analysis of operational performance data from more than 5000 connected filling machine lines around the world.
